The Cleveland State University Police Department resolved a robbery that occurred yesterday, Oct. 25, at 4:35 p.m. at E. 18th St. and Chester Avenue, advising the campus community to stay away from the area, according to a CSU EMERGENCY ALERT at 4:51 p.m.

An unknown male suspect approached a CSU student near the West Garage, verbally threatened the student and demanded money, but displayed no weapons, according to a third-follow up alert at 9:35 p.m.. Nothing was taken from the student, who ran into a nearby building and called the police. 

At 4:59 p.m. the first follow-up alert described the suspect as a tall, thin Black male wearing a black hoodie and black pants. He was last seen at the scene. The suspect was further described in the third alert as 5’10” and weighing 140 pounds, having fled north on E. 18th St., away from campus. 

A second follow-up alert at 5:06 p.m. said that police cleared the area and normal activities could resume. 

With any information regarding this incident, CSU PD request that the community call (216) 687-2020.

CSU PD encourages people to “stay alert and be aware of your surroundings, walk with confidence and purpose, and avoid texting or displaying a smartphone while traveling.” Other suggestions include using well-lit public walkways, walking with a friend or calling the CSU safety escort service at (216) 687-2020.
