This letter from the News Editor was printed in the third print issue of the 2023-24 academic year.
On pace with society at large, today’s news sources are constantly changing and evolving. From traditional print, to Fox, CNN and Politico, encompassing a range of social media platforms in between, news outlets have never been more diverse.
The Cauldron engages in many of these options: Instagram, X/Twitter, a website, and, after many years, print.
Outside of the library, near our newsroom in Berkman Hall, in the Student Center or wherever you stumble upon our print publication, I implore you to continue the exploration of your news source options.
When I arrived at CSU, or even once I began writing for The Cauldron a few semesters ago, I never could have guessed that I would end up as the news editor. As an English major on the education track, journalism can still feel like a bit of a stretch for me.
However, I believe journalism, especially in the form of news, is central to democracy and society at large. The responsibility of reporting news tied to the CSU community is one that I take very seriously.
Thankfully, I have quite the team to lean on for guidance and support as we all share in news reporting. My experiences with the stories and staff of The Cauldron are ones I’ll hold dear for years to come.
Now more than ever before is the time to be well-informed and make your own judgments, especially in those events directly tied to our campus community. It is never too late to delve into a new source or topic, or form a new judgment.
As you do so, I hope to welcome you into the stories diligently cultivated by The Cauldron as we aim to be the voice of the students.
